Portmeirion – 5 miles

Explore this charming village situated on a private peninsula on the coast of Snowdonia. The village is surrounded by gogeous Italianete gardens and is famous for its distinctive pottery, and ‘The Prisoner; TV series.

Llechwedd Slate Caverns – 15 miles

Boarding a train in a corner of the original slate slabbing mill of 1852 and entering through the side of the mountain, visitors take a ride into an 1846 tunnel. Journey into the early Victorian past remains on the level and traverse some spectacular caverns. Visitors will descend on Britain's steepest passenger railway to take the Deep Mine tour.

Caernarfon Castle – 22 miles

Caernarfon Castle, overlooking the River Seiont and Menai Strait, looks today much as it would have when building was completed in 1330. The massive curtain wall with different coloured bands and its hexagonal towers make the design reminiscent of the great Roman city of Constantinople. Birthplace to the first English Prince of Wales with the tradition continuing to this day, the castle acts as the setting to the Investiture of Prince Charles.

Snowdonia National Park and Snowdon Railway – 5.5 miles

Majestic Snowdon dominates the glorious, ancient landscape of North Wales. At 3,560ft (1085m) it’s a true mountain and a place of legend (said to be the burial place of the giant ogre Rhita, vanquished by King Arthur).

Since 1896, the Snowdon Mountain Railway has been making it easy to claim this mountain peak as one of your lifetime achievements. In a tremendously ambitious feat of engineering, and uniquely in Britain, a rack and pinion railway was built which rises to within 66ft of the summit of the highest mountain in England and Wales.
